Trump vs. Biden Debate: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Confrontation and Its Implications
28.06.2024Ioana Pascal
I watched the debate between Trump and Biden so you don’t have to and can save 90 minutes of your time. Here are a few key points and my opinion at the end.
Economy:
Biden, with a hoarse voice, blamed Trump for the economic state he inherited.
Trump praised his own economic achievements and criticized Biden for high inflation.
Both discussed the national debt, with moderators noting that Trump’s administration approved $8.4 trillion in new debt compared to Biden’s $4.3 trillion.
Abortion and Roe v. Wade:
Trump took credit for appointing Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade.
He supported the Supreme Court’s decision to approve abortion medications and advocated for state-level decisions on abortion.
Biden criticized Trump for restricting women’s access to healthcare and promised to restore Roe v. Wade.
Immigration:
Trump repeatedly attacked Biden on immigration, linking it to crime.
Biden highlighted his administration’s efforts to increase the number of asylum officers and criticized Trump’s immigration policies.
Foreign Policy:
Trump criticized Biden’s handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, calling it disgraceful and linking it to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Biden defended his record, emphasizing evacuation efforts and criticizing Trump’s stance on NATO.
Both candidates expressed support for Israel, with Trump making controversial comments about Biden’s position.
Democracy and January 6:
Trump avoided directly addressing his role in the January 6 riots and made false claims about Nancy Pelosi.
Biden condemned Trump for failing to act to stop the riots and for being a “convicted criminal.”
Trump continued to make false claims about the 2020 election being rigged.
Climate Change and Energy Policy:
Trump and Biden had divergent views on climate change and energy policy. Trump criticized the Paris Agreement and defended his policies supporting the fossil fuel industry, emphasizing America’s energy independence.
In contrast, Biden advocated for greener policies, promoting massive investments in renewable energy and emphasizing the urgent need for climate action. Biden promised to rejoin the Paris Agreement and implement an ambitious carbon reduction plan.
Health and COVID-19 Pandemic:
Another essential topic of the debate was the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden criticized Trump for his administration’s delayed and inconsistent response, accusing him of underestimating the pandemic’s severity and spreading misinformation.
Trump, on the other hand, defended his actions, highlighting the rapid development of vaccines and efforts to revive the economy. Both candidates shared their views on future strategies to combat the pandemic and protect public health.
Education and Civil Rights:
The debate also addressed issues related to education and civil rights. Biden criticized Trump’s administration’s policies on school funding and advocated for accessible and equitable education for all. He emphasized the importance of diversity and equality in the educational system.
Trump defended his policies promoting charter schools and reducing federal regulations in education.
Additionally, both candidates discussed racial tensions in the U.S., with Biden promising to address systemic inequalities, while Trump focused on supporting law enforcement and maintaining law and order.
Personal Attacks:
Trump attacked Biden over his son’s legal issues.
Biden called Trump a “convicted criminal” and criticized his moral character, referencing the hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.
Debate Performance:
Biden stumbled in some of his responses, which Trump exploited to criticize his abilities and policies.
Both candidates stuck to their campaign messages, frequently deviating from the topic to address their preferred issues.
Most analysts declared Donald Trump the winner of this debate, and his chances of winning the election increased to 65%.
My Opinion:
Biden is incapable of holding a simple conversation and expressing himself coherently. If the Democrats want a real chance of winning the presidential elections in the fall, they need to replace Biden. It is sad that the most powerful country in the world has to choose between two people over 75 who behave like two children. I believe the Democrats will change their presidential candidate, similar to how Stolojan was replaced by Băsescu in Romania in 2004. What do you think?
