On May 22, during an event organized in Bucharest, Binance and the Federation of Emerging Technologies achieved an impressive feat: over 13,000 pizzas were purchased in exchange for 1 Bitcoin as part of a remarkable charity event. This initiative had a significant impact, highlighting the idea that the world of cryptocurrencies can bring positive change to the world of charity.

The event took place on May 22, a date known in the crypto community as Bitcoin Pizza Day. This day commemorates the first Bitcoin transaction in history, carried out by Laszlo Hanyecz in 2010. Back then, Hanyecz bought two large pizzas for the sum of 10,000 BTC. Over time, Bitcoin Pizza Day has become a milestone in the cryptocurrency calendar, reminding us of the moment when cryptocurrency gained a real-world value in a transaction.

To celebrate this historic event, Binance, a cryptocurrency trading platform, organized a charity event in the capital of Romania. Starting at the local time of 12:00 and spanning 12 hours, participants from the crypto community, as well as influencers from the industry and related fields, took part in this initiative. An essential aspect of the event was educating participants through workshops, aiming to provide a better understanding of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

A remarkable moment during the event was when Daniel Nita, a crypto market investor since 2016, purchased no less than 10,000 pizzas in exchange for 1 Bitcoin. This historic moment was enthusiastically announced on Twitter: “Breaking! Just bought 10,000 pizza with 1 #bitcoin with #binance pay. History has been made.” To the surprise of many, Nita’s message was retweeted by Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the CEO of Binance, marking a special moment in the history of the Romanian crypto community.

Initially, the stated goal of the event was to buy 10,000 pizzas for 1 Bitcoin. However, the number of pizzas purchased significantly exceeded expectations, reaching over 13,000. This not only demonstrates the unity and strength of the crypto community but also the potential cryptocurrencies have in revolutionizing how we conduct transactions, even in the simplest of cases, such as buying a pizza.

The event had a significant impact on the cryptocurrency scene in Romania, showcasing that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are not just about financial transactions but can also be used to bring positive change to communities and the charitable world. Thus, Bitcoin Pizza Day remains an innovative example of how technology and charity can go hand in hand for the benefit of all.
